Balcome UK Protesters stop CSG Drilling
The anti fracking campaign in the UK has taken a huge step up after CSG mining company Cuadrilla started drilling so called exploration wells near the South Sussex town of Balcome. For the last few weeks hundreds and now about 1000 protesters have been blockading the drill site, effectively bringing drilling operations to a standstill. Hundreds of police have been on duty at the blockade, however today the police announced that they "could not guarantee the safety of the site". Consequently Cuadrilla has stopped attempts to enter the site.
The protests have taken some tips from the blockades and gas free roads campaigns here in the Northern rivers, and as well improved upon them and come up with new methods of civil disobediance.
