Hospital meet tonight: local CSG-free:Uranium

NEWSLETTER 106 – August 2012

HOSPITAL MEETING TONIGHT – 7 pm.
Mullumbimby High School will be hosting a meeting to save the night doctor at the Mullum Hospital. Here is a message from local Doctor Liz Elliott:
Dear Hospital supporters,
We hope you have invited several friends to come to the High School Auditorium meeting at 7 pm on Thursday. As you know, Chris Crawford and other Hospital Board members will be there, also leading nurses' union members. A good showing of community may well sway this process of chipping away at our beloved hospital, as the press, letters to politicians, Labor Party and Greens politicians and community sentiment is definitely swinging behind our cause.
It seems that we are a test case for many smaller NSW hospitals, so our resolve and that of the nurses' is being watched by communities and politicians across NSW. In a sense we are fighting for many rural communities! Hospitals built by years of community work should not be shut down for minor savings! Would they close down a fire station if there were only a few fires a week? Hopefully the meeting will be short and strong. Please dress warmly!
See you there!

VANDANA SHIVA: "I think the American people should see that the corporations abandoned them long ago. That people will have to rebuild their own economies and rebuild democracy as a living democracy. The corporations belong to no land, no country, no people. They have no loyalty to anything apart from ... their profits. And profits today are on an unimaginable scale; it has become illegitimate, criminal profit – profits extracted at the cost of life." http://www.vandanashiva.org
