MURWILLUMBAH RALLY 13 Oct
About 7000 yellow-clad people rocked up to the Showgrounds for another day of passionate speeches, rockin" music (some summer-of-love originals) connecting and marching around the town bearing banners.
The mid-day sun bore down relentlessly yet the enthusiasm for the speakers was undaunted. Welcome to country was followed by a bloodcurdling rejection of CSG by traditional owners; not a spectator unmoved, I bet. A short video highlighting the event is on
http://www.mullumaction.org.
Drew Hutton of LOCK THE GATE talked about the methane bubbling up like a spa bath in the Condomine River: see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8IWAFG61jE and Brian Monk from SE Queensland touched our hearts with his experiences of living with gaswells all about his farm: see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c95Ya_hafrM. Annie Kia (Coordinator of the Community Strategy,
http://www.csgfreenorthernrivers.org) acknowledged all of the communities that have already declared themselves CSG free.
The highlight of the day for me was the atmosphere of co-operation and sharing; there is something so special about a gathering motley people with a shared vision. Whilst I was sitting on the grass under a gum tree eating my lunch, a baby strayed from a nearby group, regaled me with smiles and then crawled into my lap ah, community engagement! This child"s trust in me has strengthened my commitment to her future. I was reminded me of Dean Jefferys" account of getting eyeballed by a whale: see his beautiful clip to remind ourselves of what we are fighting for

MONDAY 15 OCT
INFO SESSION ON GASFIELD FREE COMMUNITIES
LISMORE NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE, 5.30 pm.
Do you have conversations with people about the campaign to save our region from invasive gasfields? Could some of those people be interested in the Gasfield Free Community initiative?
We need a 'critical mass' of people who understand what helps/hinders this important initiative.
Come to a special training session Monday 15th Oct at Lismore Neighbourhood Centre 5.30pm.
Even if you are not involved, come along so when you chat with others, you have a better idea of how it works.
And remember, whenever you hear of people wanting to do the initiative where they live, it's essential to connect them with the person coordinating the initiative in their Local Government area. Their details are on the attached Update, below this advert.
