NBN TOWER AT MULLUM GOLFCOURSE: BLESSING OR CURSE?

You might remember Kevin Rudd"s promise to provide all homes with fibre optic broadband. You might also have had a letter by snail mail headed "Notification of Proposed NBN Fixed Wireless Base Station at Mullumbibmy (note their spelling) Golf Club ..."

There is an ‘information session" today to answer our questions at the Civic Hall, Mullum from 3 – 6 pm. Note that the erection of the tower at the golf club and 7 other such facilities in the Byron Shire are not subject to approval by Byron Shire Council; State Gov is foisting this upon us.

The original plan was to use fibre optic to the node exchange at the base of the road and from there using the existing copper wire telephone line to each modem at home. Then Telstra which had become (mainly?) private company decided to charge too much for the use of their infrastructure. Now we are being foisted with the cheap option: RADIATION!!! How much more radiation will come from a Broadband tower than a mobile tower?? Why has Byron Shire been singled out for Wireless (ie radiation) Broadband instead of fixed line? 93% of NBN is being delivered by fibre-to-premises technology and yet we have to cop the radiation. Are we being used as guinea pigs?
