MULLUM GAS WAR – DECLARATION DAY – MULLUMFLICKS – KIDZ ART


GAS WAR has come to Mullum! Read letters in Byron Shire Echo today p14; John Vaughan of Belongil has written a scathing and aggressive attack on Cr Duncan Dey who has tabled a motion for this Thursday"s (13th June) council meeting concerning CSG. Duncan asks that Byron Shire Council erect gasfield free signs for each community that has voted to be gasfield free. In particular, Mullum, Ocean Shores and Bangalow have finished their surveys and other communities are currently being surveyed. These signs will be paid for by community, with council liaising with the groups on wording and placement of the signs. Full details are on the Byron Shire Council website Agenda.

This is not a lot to ask of council; consistent signage throughout the shire does send out a message that Byron Shire Council is supporting the wishes of the people. Council has already written to government stating its opposition to CSG mining in the shire. If council erects the signs it will probably save the expense of chasing up groups when certain people object to the signs saying they are obscuring visibility, as happened with Lismore Council.

Vaughan"s vitriol seems to indicate he"s dead worried about his vested interests. If there ain"t no CSG in the Shire, why are there CSG licences? The Aboriginal Land Council has stated that they intend to frack for CSG in the Shire. Vaughan will no doubt be speaking in Public Access on Thursday opposing the Motion. If you are able to get to the Council Chambers 9 am this Thursday in support of Cr Duncan Dey"s motion, please do so!


DECLARATION DAY FOR MULLUMBIMBY – FRI 14th JUNE
Please meet at 8.30 am Main Gates of Showgrounds (Main Arm Rd) for procession (with percussion) to the Farmers Market to meet with the Mayor at 9am.
We are still needing 3 people from each zone to hand over the certificates for Gasfield Free Roads, so please contact your coordinator (or me 66843723) if you would like to participate.

MULLUM FLICKS:

Sat 15th June, 6 pm for hot food, desserts and chai. At 6.30 will be a 15 min LOCK THE GATE movie followed by "A FIERCE GREEN FIRE – THE BATTLE FOR A LIVING PLANET"



KIDZ ART – NOW EXTENDED AND BIGGER!

There has been no response from Mullum schools on the Kidz Art competition. So we are changing the goal posts slightly – the competition will be open till 31st June and the artworks can be any size, not just A4. If you feel passionately about csg coming to the shire, please get your kids to make a message – these touch the hearts far more than adult messages (see http://www.mullumaction.org for examples of kidz art). Put name and address on the back.
