Thanks everyone for scrumptious supply of food items in support of John Fenton"s talk last Sat in Bangalow. The kitchen fundraiser did very well, thanks to you! Proceeds will be divided up between GFFBShire and Greens who organised the tour; Graeme Williams coordinator par excellence. Fenton was great – he is humble as well as being passionate and articulate – obviously carrying a great weight of responsibility to share his message of gasfield horror with the world.

Something that leapt out at me was the HERITAGE section 6.2 on P 31 "There are no known items of cultural, historical or environmental heritage significance located in the vicinity of the proposed site" [so let"s trash it ...]

the Minister has now confirmed he will use the existing system to make his radical changes to the NSW planning system. This could include the possible expansion of complying development to a code-assessment like system.

LET"S TALK ABOUT ECOCIDE
If you have a serious problem it"s good to name it, and talk about it. We know that applies to Suicide and Genocide. Let"s face it, locally and globally, we are now being faced with Ecocide. In a multitude of ways and on widely varying scales, the natural systems of this planet - the integrated ecologies that total the living entity Mother Earth, Gaia, this planet, are being viciously attacked and destroyed. This is Ecocide. But after the Second World War, when the new United Nations first named the Crimes Against Humanity that all would agree on and prohibit, and henceforth refer to a new court – The International Criminal Court – Ecocide was the Fifth Crime. Then it was dropped. What a different world we might be living in otherwise! Now there is a campaign gaining ground to have it re-instated, and the instigator – UK lawyer, author, activist and speaker Polly Higgins, will be at Mullumbimby Civic Hall on Saturday 15 March. This event, by Gasfield Free Byron Shire with profits to Lock the Gate, will be largely interactive and questions on relevant local and global issues are very much invited.
