BENTLEY AFFINITY GROUP MEETING
MULLUM COMMUNITY GARDENS, FRIDAY 7th, 6 pm
All those opposed to CSG called to Action
To date, a core group of locals and action orientated people have successfully resisted any development or delivery of machinery and infrastructure to the Bentley site. It is time now for Byron Shire residents, all of us 97-99% to inject some energy, develop some strategy and have some fun at home or on site, a beautiful, council approved camp site just 1hour west of the Shire.
With arrival of a drill rig imminent at Bentley, an invitation to meet and network this Friday 7th is extended to all at 6pm Mullumbimby Community Gardens. This will follow a swap party planned for the garden and Wood fired pizza will be available for dinner.
The aims of the meet are to establish affinity groups called Pods, to discuss the many diverse tactics we Byron residents can take to support the Bentley protest and prevent fracking of our area. Pods can be as diverse as your imagination, ie the placard pod, fun pod, food pod, healing pod, lock on pod, media/promotion pod, car pooling pod, ukelele pod, cabaret/theatre pod etc. Think of the international coverage, success and quirky ideas of the Knitting Nanas Against Gas. Doing what they love with a cause.
Friday nights meet will be followed up by a carpool convoy and optional camp over on Saturday 8th so we can check in and give some support to those holding the fort on the front line. Saturday"s meeting point; behind the Bangalow pub at 3pm.
Protest site address: 15km from Lismore on road to Kyogle, Cnr of Bentley and Bungabee Rd.
Metgasco has convened a Community Meeting concerning the Bentley drill on Thursday March 13th 10am 12pm at Metgascos Casino Office. Some community representatives have been invited and please consider joining the expected crowd that will be assembling outside.
SAVE CAPE BYRON MARINE SANTUARY RALLY
SAT 8 MARCH 12 noon Byron Main Beach
A small window of opportunity exists to save the Cape Byron Marine Park SANCTUARY which the community fought hard to create. Sanctuary zones include the rocky headlands and beaches around Cape Byron, Wategos, The Pass and Tallows, which provide habitat for a diversity of marine life, including dolphins, turtles and fish - allowing them to feed and reach sexual maturity without pressure from fishing.
This is only the first stage of the Government's 'review' of marine parks, so areas like Julian Rocks (renowned for its threatened species and world-class diving) could also soon be at risk. We still have a chance to stop our State Government making this ridiculous decision. We will be calling on local member Don Page to stand up and oppose this controversial plan before it is approved. MARCH IN MARCH is happening all over Australia 15-17 March.
