Update on Repco Rally Protest
Members of this organisation intend to demonstrate our opposition to
the Repco Rally and peacefully protest against the undemocratic way it was
imposed on our region.
We encourage the public to attend our protest gatherings which are designed
to be creative and non-confrontational: that is, we have planned
demonstration gathering places and times that are not directly challenging
rally fans.
We will encourage everyone present at our gatherings to maintain a positive
and peaceful attitude. We will be respectful of the rights of others and
will refrain from violent behaviour and abusive language.
I’ve attached a copy of the times and places we’ll be asking people to meet for
protesting the Repco rally. We ask everyone to wear something white to symbolise the
purity of our intention and the importance of a healthy environment and to stay drug
and alcohol free for the duration. None of us envisage any problem with the police
as we have informed them of our plans and intend to isolate and report any trouble
makers. Some are even bringing their children and grandchildren. The main aim is to
have thousands present visibly in the national and overseas TV cameras, so I’m
asking for everyone to forward this email as widely as possible and to STAND UP AND
BE COUNTED!!.
For those who live a distance away there will be camping at James McKenzie’s farm at
Eungella – just show up. He has indigenous custodians living there who are looking
forward to sharing their stories with us.
Below are the principles we intend to abide by. Please do not come to the scheduled
actions if you don’t think you can uphold them.
Principles of Peaceful Protest
Members of this organisation intend to demonstrate our opposition to the Repco Rally
and peacefully protest against the undemocratic way it was imposed on our region.
We encourage the public to attend our protest gatherings which are designed to be
creative and non-confrontational: that is, we have planned demonstration gathering
places and times that are not directly challenging rally fans.
We will encourage everyone present at our gatherings to maintain a positive and
peaceful attitude. We will be respectful of the rights of others and will refrain
from violent behaviour and abusive language.
We will not employ methods that may constitute a danger to public safety. If abused
or attacked we will not retaliate. We will establish and maintain liaison with the
police, who have been charged with protecting public safety, and will assist them to
maintain order.
We intend to document proceedings through video recording of events.
Hope to see a few of you there on one or all days! Friends can always stay with
us….just not on the Friday as you won’t be able to get here between 0930 and 1830
due to the road being closed (and it might be rather noisy and dusty too). So we’ll
be staying home on Friday 4th, but will attend planned protests on other days… at
this stage Don and I plan to be at Kingscliff on 29th, Barkers Vale on 5th and Uki
on 6th. This last one will be all about singing so bring along songsheets, musical
instruments and your friendly neighbourhood choir. Please be sensible and don’t try
to get to all of the protest gatherings on each day, as that would be a schedule as
ludicrous as the actual rally!
PLEASE PLEASE FORWARD THE PROTEST DETAILS AND GUIDING PRINCIPLES WIDELY
All Love and Light, Fiona
The "No Rally in the Valley" group are holding a final ceremony at the end of the rally in Kingscliff on 6th September at 4.45pm and would like as many people to attend as possible, sending out a clear message about our corrupt government, planning laws, etc.
There will be worldwide live TV coverage and people are asked to wear white to show support for democracy, bring placards, banners and drums.
